Production-grade debugging stories, not just merged-link trophies.

Each contribution is framed the way a strong engineering interview would probe it: problem, root cause, fix, and testing strategy.

01 - Apache OpenTelemetry

OpenTelemetry Java

Problem

Baggage header parsing could discard valid members after encountering invalid percent-encoded entries.

Root Cause

Parser recovery did not preserve valid members cleanly when one entry failed percent-decoding.

Fix

Adjusted recovery behavior so valid baggage members remain available while invalid entries are rejected.

Testing

Added regression tests and validated behavior across Linux, macOS, and Windows CI.

Parser investigation -> recovery patch -> regression coverage -> merged PR

02 - C++ Formatting Library

fmt

Problem

A 32-bit i686 fallback uint128 bug corrupted high-word behavior in hexadecimal floating formatting.

Root Cause

format_hexfloat masked rounded bits with bitwise NOT, while fallback operator~ truncated to 32 bits.

Fix

Corrected fallback uint128 handling so high-word state survives the bitwise operation.

Testing

Validated across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures to prove the fix was not architecture-specific.

32-bit reproduction -> high-word diagnosis -> fallback fix -> cross-architecture validation

Contribution Timeline

A repeatable debugging pattern.

Reproduce precisely, isolate the root cause, patch narrowly, validate across the environments that exposed the failure.
